RESOURCES

Medical debt is the leading cause of bankruptcy in the US. It can feel overwhelming and most people do not know that there is help available.

Our goal at The Upside Fund is to provide resources and information to help you navigate the world of medical bills and debt.

RESOLVE

Resolve is a for-profit company that helps patients navigate complex medical bills and reduce or eliminate the amount they owe.

Lindsey sat down with Anna from Resolve to talk about all things medical debt:

Negotiate Your Own Medical Bills:

If you have the ability and time to negotiate your bills on your own, Resolve has a guide to help you do just that. Click Here for a Medical Bill Guide.

Work with a Resolve Advocate:

If you have medical bills totaling over $5000, a Resolve advocate can work with you to examine your bills and identify errors, dispute and negotiate bills, overturn insurance denials, and secure financial aid.

The final cost is calculated as a success fee based on the total savings they are able to find for you. This can range from 10% – 25% of the savings, based on different variables related to your bill(s).

CHARITY CARE

Charity Care is a law that requires non profit hospitals (most in the US) to provide free or reduced care to those that meet a certain income threshold. The problem is that most hospitals don’t do a great job of telling people about these programs so we have millions of people that are declaring bankruptcy or on payment plans for bills they do not have to pay!

The income threshold in your state may be more accessible than you think – so finding out if you qualify for charity care can be a lifesaver. You can take the first step by asking your hospital’s billing department to connect you with the charity care or financial aid department.

Our non-profit partner, Dollar For, helps people find out if they qualify for charity care and apply. If you are eligible, Dollar For can help you apply FOR FREE, either on your own or with assistance from their experienced Patient Advocates.

Dollar For has created a special link just for Lindsey’s fans. Go to www.dollarfor.org/lindsey to find out if you are eligible.
